Ripon sweeps singles to edge PHS

PLYMOUTH – Ripon swept the singles matches to edge the Plymouth Panthers, 4-3, in an Eastern Wisconsin Conference girls tennis meet here Thursday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Panthers’ EWC dual record to 4-3.

PHS won all three of the doubles matches in straight sets. Hailey Molkenthine and Danielle Wiese teamed up for a 7-6 (7-0 tiebreaker), 6-3 win at the No. 1 position.

The Panthers’ other winners in doubles play were Kayla Prahl and Kaylee Woelfel, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2; and Madi Heginbottom and Ella Harpstead, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.

“Our aggressive net play really set us apart in doubles, particularly at the No. 1 doubles position.,” said PHS head coach Laura Michel.

“Hailey Molkenthine and Danielle Wiese won a first-set tiebreaker, 7-0, by controlling the net play.”

In junior varsity action, PHS won two of the three matches. Lexi Lautenschlaeger was a 9-7 winner in singles. Hannah Markant and Taylor Broder won their doubles match, 8-1.
