Grocery co-op to expand

Heather Cleveland, President of the Board of Directors for Goodside Grocery cooperative announced the planned opening of the new store located at 1131 North 8th Street in Sheboygan. The store will be a full-service grocery emphasizing healthy, local, natural, and organic products. Operations at the expanded site will begin before the holiday season.

Goodside Grocery is a local cooperative owned by its members. As a cooperative, Goodside Grocery models and promotes sustainability through innovative bulk food options that reduce food and packaging waste, working with farmers and producers to create a demand for sustainably produced goods, and by being a major factor in a vibrant and sustainable downtown by meeting an essential need that supports the current and coming business and residential development in Sheboygan. Non-members are also welcome to shop at Goodside, but they do not receive the discounted prices. Goodside Grocery is running a membership drive through the end of the year.

As part of the expansion of operations, Goodside announced the hiring of store manager, Nichole Kloss, the first full-time employee in the cooperative’s four-year history. To assist the success of the business expansion plan, Goodside Grocery received a $25,000 forgivable loan through the City of Sheboygan’s revolving loan fund. The loan is contingent upon Goodside maintaining the job creation as outlined in the business plan.

The business plan development was facilitated through the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Green Bay and Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC).
