Home sweet home for Elkhart Lake

ELKHART LAKE – How appropriate it was that Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah students played key roles in the New Holstein/EL-G Huskies’ 9-0 rout over Wrightstown Thursday night in nonconference boys soccer action.

The match was the first one played at Elkhart during the past four years of the team’s co-op program. The Huskies upped their record to 12-2-5.

The following EL-G students contributed either a goal or an assist: Jacob Starnitcky with two goals; Tyler Schultz, two goals and one assist; Max Kossman, goal on a penalty kick; and Noah Ruh with two assists. NH/EL-G goalie Stephan Clemens, an Elkhart student, made 12 saves en route to a shutout.

“Tonight was a very special night as we played our first ever home game in Elkhart Lake. Those students have traveled to New Holstein as part of our co-op for the past four years and it was time for us to finally play a game there,” said Husky co-head coach Nate Laabs.

“The support and atmosphere was electric and all of our players were very excited.”

Senior forward Jacob Conrad sparked the Huskies’ attack with three goals. Josue Valenzuela kicked the team’s other goal. Valenzuela had a team-high four assists. Michael Thome had the Huskies’ other assist.

The Huskies, who mounted a 6-0 halftime lead, led 18-12 in shots on goal.
