Panthers finish unbeaten in conference

CAMPBELLSPORT – The Plymouth Panthers wrapped up their East Central Conference boys soccer championship season undefeated at 13-0-1 with a 5-0 win over host Campbellsport Thursday afternoon.

The Panthers, who ended their regular season with an 18-2-2 record, stretched their winning streak to 10. PHS chalked up an impressive 10 shutouts in league play.

The Cougars finished 7-7 in the ECC and posted a regular-season mark of 9-9-1.

Senior forward Eric Novak and junior midfielder Dylan Koehn led the PHS attack with two goals each and senior defender Noah Joseph kicked one. Joseph had an outstanding four assists which accounted for all of his team’s total.

PHS held a whopping 15-1 edge in shots on goal. Panther goalie Cole Bogenschuetz made one save. Saunders Gentine also played in the goal for PHS. Cougar goalie Seth Tacke had 10 saves.

“Winning conference and continuing to play good soccer is an excellent way to finish our regular season,” said Panther head coach Rommy Herrera.

“We had a really successful season – winning conference and finishing undefeated. We worked hard to get better after every game and looking back I can say that our defensive and offensive lines improved a lot.

“Today’s game was difficult. Campbellsport has some good players that can make our passing and controlling of the ball difficult,” said Herrera

“Their field is always one of the most difficult to play but we never stopped trying and believing in ourselves and that has always been our strategy to succeed this year.”

The Panthers earned a No. 3 seed in their Division 2 regional and will host No. 6-seeded Kaukauna in the first round Thursday at 4 p.m. The winner will face the victor of the match between No. 2-seeded Oshkosh North and No. 7-seeded Roncalli/Two Rivers in the finals Saturday at the highest seed.
