Tigers sweep Kohler in regional opener

HGHS, a No. 2 seed, is ranked No. 4 in the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association’s D-3 poll. Kohler came in as the No. 7 seed. The Tigers will host St. Mary’s Springs (Fond du Lac) in the semifinals Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.

The HGHS-Springs winner will meet the Oostburg-Valders winner in the finals Saturday at 7 p.m. at the higher seed.

“It always feels good to move on in the playoffs. We have to learn from every match and im- prove our focus. We look forward to the challenges that lie ahead,” said Tiger head coach Brett Damrow whose team advanced to the D-3 state semifinals last year.

“We did what we needed to do and we took care of business.”

Sam Yancy spearheaded the Tigers’ hitting with 14 kills, followed by Olivia Stauss with seven. Taylor Bubolz led in assists with 21, followed by Paige Splittgerber’s 11.

Brittany Schaller paced HGHS in digs with 16 and ace serves, seven. Yancy contributed four aces. Addi Gerber had a teamhigh two blocks.
