The Tigers, who scored 87 points, were led by junior Kate Guse who finished fourth with a time of 20 minutes, 55 seconds on the 3.1-mile course. Kewaunee was the runner-up with 99 and also qualified for state.

The first two teams and the topfive runners from the rest of the competition in the girls and boys meets qualified for state at Wisconsin Rapids Saturday. The winner of the girls race was Sarah Niehueser of Winnebago Lutheran Academy (Fond du Lac) in 20:37.

“I think we were a little surprised by the overall results as the Tiger girls did not have their best race of the season but the kids know this course well and that may have played some to our advantage,” said Tiger head coach Gary Kalk.
