Marian Chamber Singers to perform Sunday concert

The Marian University Chamber Singers will be hosting a fall concert Sunday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. in Dorcas Chapel, located on the corner of National Avenue and Division Street in Fond du Lac.

The Chamber Singers will showcase their understanding of diverse styles in singing this concert of choral music, spanning the 16th century to the present. In addition, the concert will also feature lesser known vocal music of the Advent and Christmas genre.

The choir will open the concert with Renaissance composer Peter Philips’ “O Beatum et Sacrosanctum Diem,” followed by 19th century Scandinavian composer Edvard Grieg’s setting of “Ave Maris Stella.”

Student vocal soloists and instrumentalists will be highlighted on the modern spiritual, “There’s a Pretty Little Baby” by Andre Thomas; “A La Nanita Nana,” a traditional Spanish carol arranged by Norman Lubboff; and “I’m Gonna Sing ‘Till the Spirit Moves in My Heart” by Moses Hogan.

Special to this concert will be two hymn settings that will include the audience: “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee,” arranged by John Ferguson, and a folk-style hymn “The Summons” by Scottish hymn-writer and minister, John L. Bell.

The Marian University Chamber Singers is a mixed chorus open to all Marian students by audition. Exemplifying the best of the liberal arts tradition in which Marian is grounded, a majority of the choir is enrolled in a degree program other than music.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact David Hein, assistant professor of music, at dhein14@marianuniversity.edu.
