HG’s Mugan helps UW-Eau Claire win national title


RYAN MUGAN RYAN MUGAN WINNECONNE – Ryan Mugan, a 2011 Howards Grove High School graduate, helped the UWEau Claire Blugolds win the men’s title in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, hosted by UW-Oshkosh here Saturday.

The national championship is the first in the history of the men’s cross country program at UW-Eau Claire.

Mugan, a senior, became the first three-time cross country All- American in school history with his 11th-place overall finish at Saturday’s nationals.

Mugan, the Blugolds’ secondhighest finisher, ran the 8-kilo- meter layout (approximately five miles) at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in 24 minutes, 35.40 seconds.

UW-Eau Claire was led by junior Josh Thorson from Plymouth, Minn., who placed second in 24:15.0 in a field of 278 runners. Thoeson earned third last year. Saturday’s winner was Ian La Mere of UW-Platteville with a time of 23:35.40.

The Blugolds scored 135 points. UW-La Cross finished ninth with 300.
