Plymouth’s Johnson competes in NCAA national meet

Johnson placed 72nd overall with a time of 20 minutes, 40.1 seconds on the 6,000-meter course. The redshirt junior improved on her 219th place in last year’s national meet.

Liz Berkholtz of Sun Prairie led the Gophers with a 44th-place finish in 20:29.1, narrowly missing All-American honors which were awarded to the top-40 runners.

The Gophers scored 471 points and placed 18th in the meet which is their highest finish since earning 10th in 2009. Minnesota was making its 11th straight appearance in the nationals.

New Mexico won the title with 49 points. Notre Dame’s Molly Seidel won the individual crown in 19:28.6.
