Pedestrian killed in accident

A 56-year-old town of Plymouth woman, Barbara Wegner, was killed Saturday, Dec. 5, in an early-morning accident on State 23 east of County S in the town of Plymouth.

According to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, 911 calls were received at around 6:54 a.m. of a rolled-over vehicle on State 23. Sheboygan County Sheriff’s deputies, Orange Cross Ambulance, Plymouth Fire Department, and Plymouth JAWS responded to the scene.

A 2002 Ford Explorer, with the driver the lone occupant, had been traveling westbound on State 23 in the right-hand lane when the vehicle began to slide and the driver lost control on the frost-covered roadway.

A pedestrian was walking eastbound along the north shoulder of State 23 ahead of the Ford Explorer at the same time. As the vehicle was losing control, it began to travel directly toward the pedestrian. The vehicle then entered the north shoulder and subsequently began to roll over.

The pedestrian unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle but it eventually rolled directly on top of the her, coming to rest on its roof.

Wegner was declared dead at the scene.
