Tigers cruise to third straight victory

MISHICOT – The Grove Tigers ran their streak to three with a 53-30 drubbing of Mishicot in boys basketball action here Friday night.

The Tigers raised their Big East Conference record to 2-0 (3-1 overall). The Indians dropped to 1-1 in the BEC (1-1 overall).

HGHS broke the game open by outscoring the Indians 31-13 in the second half after leading only 22-17 at halftime. Senior guard/forward Devin Gallenberger sparked the Tigers’ offense in the half with 16 of his game-high 21 points.

“Overall, I thought our effort was pretty good. The kids played hard and we’re in the process of fine-tuning our play,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“I thought the energy we came out with in the second half was tremendous and really allowed us to get some easy baskets. We did a really nice job as a team on the defensive glass.

“I thought Travis Stanczyk gave us a huge lift off the bench on Friday night. He got after it defensively and also hit some tough shots versus their zone defense,” said Worth.

Stanczyk, a senior guard, hit eight points, including two three-point goals. Junior guard Bryce Pedrin contributed 10 points for the Tigers, including a pair of treys. HGHS drained eight three-point shots.

“I think the biggest thing for us is focusing on the little things and understanding who we are as a team. We have a lot of work to do but overall I’m happy with the way we competed,” said Worth.
