Resorters fall to BEC title favorite in debut

RANDOM LAKE – Four pins and two technical falls powered the Random Lake Rams to a 55- 21 thumping of Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah/Howards Grove in a dual wrestling meet here Thursday night.

The Big East Conference meet was the season opener for the Resorters. Random Lake, a Division 2 state qualifier last season, is the favorite to win the BEC title.

EL/HG was led by sophomores Max Ward and Jon Roll who scored pins at 126 and 285 pounds, respectively. Also winning for the Resorters were Trent Rebedew with a 9-3 decision at 145 and Taylor Cain by forfeit at 120.

The Resorters had a very young lineup which included six freshmen.

“Our underclassmen showed me tonight that we are on the path to building the successful program that I have envisioned the last five years. Every one of the guys wrestled with a big heart and a don’tgive up attitude,” said Resorter head coach Larry Ward.

“We lost on paper tonight but learned a lot about our team. We have a great group of underclassmen that are going to continue to improve throughout the season.”
