Resorters win Horicon Invitational

The Resorters chalked up a 5-0 record with wins over Markesan, 42-38; Waterloo, 51- 24; Horicon, 45-34; Manawa, 52-27; and Menominee, 39-35. Elkhart sophomore 132-pounder Max Ward was named the tourney’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. Ward finished 5-0 with four pins.

Elkhart had four wrestlers with 4-1 records – Cody Behnke at 113; Trent Rebedew, 145; Troy Rebedew, 160; and Jon Roll, 285.

Also competing for EL-G/ HG were Matthew Schorer, 3-1 at 220; Cole Entringer, 3-2, 138; and Regan Dippel, 3-2 at 195.

“This was a total team effort today. Everyone wrestled incredibly well,” said Resorter head coach Larry Ward.

“We had to forfeit four weight classes due to injuries. The kids wrestled with the urgency needed as they picked up bonus points in most of the matches.

“Cody Behnke got the comefrom behind pin in the last match of the last dual to get us to 5-0,” coach Ward noted.

Behnke pinned Vel Hawkins in 2:41 which gave the Resorters their win over Menominee Indian.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this group of young men. We had six freshman of the 10 that wrestled today. Our freshmen came up big for us today.”
