Balanced offense sparks Tigers to victory

CHILTON – A balanced attack paved the way for a 68-50 win by the Howards Grove Tigers over Chilton in a non conference boys basketball game here Dec. 29.

The Tigers raised their record to 6-3 while Chilton dropped to 0-8.

Junior guard Bryce Pedrin led the HGHS scoring with 15 points on five three-point goals. Devin Gallenberger and Eric Reinemann chipped in with 12 each.

HGHS took a 35-28 halftime lead and had a balanced offense in the opening half with four players scoring at least five points, led by Gallenberger’s eight. The visitors outscored Chilton 33-22 in the second half, keyed by Pethan with nine points and Reinemann, eight.

“Chilton came out pretty hot from the floor and it was a battle back and forth early on. HG was able to pull away a little bit before the end of the first half with some good execution down the stretch,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“I thought our guys played hard and they did a good job of competing. We have a number of things to work on but I think we’re taking strides in the right direction.”

Gallenberger paced the Tigers in assists with six, followed by Derrick Grimm with three. Gallenberger, a senior guard/forward, also had a team-high eight rebounds. Caleb Holzman contributed six boards.

Daynen Pethan led Chilton’s offense with 15 points.
