Weill Center for the Performing Arts in Sheboygan.

On the heals of appearances by former Packers players Mark Tauscher, Chris Jacke and Antonio Freeman in recent years, this year’s event, which takes the stage at 7 p.m., keeps the Packer tradition alive with Marcol’s presence at the Unity Music Festival.

Marcol was a place kicker for the Packers from 1972 to 1980, earning induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1987

Marcol will serve as co-master of ceremonies with Daven Claerbout and be featured as the main attraction during the pre-show gala appetizer buffet, where he will be signing Packers memorabilia and copies of his book, “Alive and Kicking – My Journey Through Football, Addiction and Life.”

“We are happy to have Chester Marcol with us throughout the night,” UMF founder and organizer Mary Ann Waldbauer of Sheboygan Falls said. “We will have his book available for sale at the gala appetizer buffet and during intermission for him to sign. I read the book and it is amazing.”

“Chester’s appearance is being sponsored by Mersberger Financial Group,” she said. “Without their support, we would not be able to have these Packers join us each year.”

The show will be highlighted by a performance from Sheboygan Light Rail, which will perform a blend of acoustic folk, rock and pop music featuring three-part vocal harmony.

The well-known local group typically performs covers of such artists as the Indigo Girls, Paul Simon, Bee Gees, CSN, Wailin’ Jennys, Peter Paul & Mary, Leonard Cohen and even Destiny’s Child.

“Their music ranges from slow and thoughtful to fast and fun,” Waldbauer said. “They play regularly at area coffee houses, festivals, picnics, private parties and house concerts. The common denominator in all of their songs is harmony.”

The Sheboygan Lutheran High School Jazz Band and Jessica School of Dance are also slated to perform.

Fundraising activities will begin at 5 p.m. with silent and live auction viewing and dollar raffles. The gala appetizer buffet will run prior to the show from 5-6 p.m.

General admission tickets are currently on sale for $20 per person. General admission tickets with the gala appetizer buffet are $50.

Daven Claerbout will serve as the auctioneer during the live auction portion of the evening, which will take place at intermission.

“The gala appetizer Buffet is shaping up to be really good this year with Chester Marcol on hand. In addition, Chuck Miesfeld will have his chef Clint and staff on hand to serve up the gala appetizer buffet,” Waldbauer said. “I am currently looking for auction items and sponsors.”

All proceeds from the show will go to support the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund, which assists cancer patients within Sheboygan County.

“One hundred percent of the proceeds go to help cancer patients and their family members in Sheboygan County,” Waldbauer said. “Anyone suffering a financial hardship due to cancer can benefit from this fund.

“We can help with heat, light, water, house mortgages, wigs, rent, uninsured medical bills, groceries or gas cards, quality of life classes, etc.,” she said. “We help make their quality of life better while going through this devastating time in their lives.”

“People realize this show is really about people helping people right here in our own community,” Waldbauer said. “Performers use their God-given talent to help others through music or dance.

“This show not only helps cancer patients financially, but it builds self-esteem for everyone that helps,” she said. “It teaches the lesson that if you give from your heart, the rewards will be great.”

“It’s been a challenging year for me, losing my mom in June and in October, I lost my brother to cancer,” Waldbauer said. “It will make this years show even more meaningful. I know first hand the devastation of this deadly disease.

“I feel blessed that God let me live for a reason and I feel it is to help others,” she said. “That is what this show is about people helping people and what a network of support I have from the community, with my husband, Rick, being my number one support.”
