Kalbacken powers Resorters to narrow win

Senior forward Owen Kalbacken had a monster game to lift the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters over host Stockbridge, 54-42, in a non conference boys basketball game Monday night.

Kalbacken had a team-high 22 points and 18 rebounds. The Resorters improved to 2-8 and the Indians fell to 0-8.

The Resorters had to stave off a furious rally by the Indians who finished the game with a 22-6 run. Jake Thurber’s 12-foot jumper rimmed out with one second left and Kalbacken grabbed the rebound which sealed the win.

Elkhart led 48-30 with nine minutes left.

“It was nice to get win on the road but we were sloppy with passes and shot selection down the stretch,” said Resorter head coach Ray Mlada.

“We also missed many free throws that would have sealed the game but left the door open for them to hit some big threes to ___________________________ make it a game.”

Max Kossman and Tyler Schultz contributed 10 points each for Elkhart. Also scoring for the team were Caleb Broaddus with seven and Noah Ruh, five.

The Resorters lost their previous game Saturday night to visiting Sheboygan Christian, 63-24, in Big East Conference action. Broaddus led EL-G in scoring with 10. Elkhart dropped to 0-7 in the BEC and the Eagles improved to 4-1 in the league (6-1 overall).

Kyle Lutzke paced Elkhart in boards with 10 and Kalbacken had eight.
