Stewardship applications available

Applications for the Sheboygan County Stewardship Fund Grant have been released by the Sheboygan County Planning and Conservation Department.

Applications can be obtained at the Planning and Conservation Department office, Room 335, 508 New York Ave., Sheboygan, or by visiting and navigating to the Planning and Conservation Department page.

The 2015 application deadline is Monday, May 2, at 5 p.m. Applications must be mailed or hand delivered; faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted.

Approximately $110,000 is available for funding in 2016. Recommendations for individual project funding are made by the Sheboygan Country Recreational Facilities Management Advisory Committee, with final funding allocation decided by the Sheboygan County Board of Supervisors’ Planning, Resources, Agriculture, and Extension Committee.

County Board Supervisor and Chairman of the Planning, Resources, Agriculture, and Extension Committee Chair Keith Abler stated, “The County Stewardship program continues to be a popular and successful program 15 years after over 70 percent of county voters approved it. Over 80 projects have been approved and nearly every entity in the county has seen a project positively affect their community.”

Projects must fit into one of three categories: project development, land acquisition, or discretionary (which are considered for applicability on a case-by-case basis). Stewardship Grant funds cannot exceed 50 percent of the total project or acquisition cost.

Interested non-profits or municipalities are encouraged to contact the department prior to applying.
