UW-Sheboygan to host student music competition

The University of Wisconsin- Sheboygan Music Department invites aspiring musicians in the local community to enter the annual “TAKE NOTE-ice! 2016” Music Competition this spring. All area high school students and college students are invited to enter themselves, their band, string quartet, etc. to battle to be the TAKE NOTE-ice! Grand Prize winner.

All entries to the live competition, which will be held at noon on April 7 in the UW-Sheboygan Commons, are due to the UW-S Music Department by 5 p.m. March 4, 2016.

Participation is open to any soloist or student-led musical group formed outside local high school or college music ensembles. All members of a group must be enrolled in a Wisconsin high school or college.

All entries must include a recording of one song, a completed application and an entry fee of $20 per entry (not per person). All proceeds support the UW-Sheboygan Music Department.

Recordings can be sent via email as a You Tube video to christy. talbott@uwc.edu. Applications may be emailed as well. Applications and entry fees should be delivered in person or mailed to Dr. Christy Talbott, UW-Sheboygan, Dept. of Music, One University Drive, Sheboygan, WI 53081.

A panel of music educators will reduce the entries to four finalists. Selected performers will be asked to perform two songs (including one from the original entry) at the live competition. The event audience will then vote to determine the top three performers who will advance to the final concert in May.

The top three winners will plan, organize and perform their very own debut concert/TAKE NOTE-ice Finale Concert to be held on the UW-Sheboygan campus on May 5 at 7 p.m. in the UWSheboygan Fine Arts Theatre. The grand prize winner will be selected by a tally of votes and will receive a $100 award. Two other groups or performers will receive honorable mention.

Application forms and complete contest rules can be obtained by contacting Dr. Christy Talbott at Christy.talbott@uwc.edu or visit http://sheboygan.uwc.edu/ campus/news/releases/aspiringmusicians invited-compete-takenote ice-2016. All entries are due by March 4, 2016.
