Resorters’ Rebedew, Ward win BEC titles

The Resorters, who had an impressive 10 top-four finishers, scored 167 points. Random Lake won the eight-team tourney with 265.5 points, followed by Reedsville at 184.

Rebedew, a senior, was named the tourney’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. He earned two pins, including one in the finals against Random Lake’s Cordell Huiras in 3:24.

Ward, a sophomore, won by a technical fall, 16-0, in the semifinals and then pinned Oostburg’s Chase Lombardi in the title match in 3:57.

They [Rebedew and Ward] both won by decisions in their dual meet match-ups over the same opponents,” said Resorter head coach Larry Ward.

Elkhart sophomore Jon Roll was the runner-up at 285. After recording a pin in the semifinals, Roll was pinned in the finals by Random Lake’s Jarrett Hiller in 4:24.

The Resorters’ other placewinners included: third – Cody Nelson at 106, Frank Perko at 132, Brennen Cain, 145 and Troy Rebedew at 152; fourth – Cody Behnke at 113, Regan Dippel, 182 and Matthew Schorer at 220; and sixth – Taylor Cain at 120.

“I was pleased with our overall performance. We won four of six in the third-place matches which was huge for team points,” said coach Ward.
