LTC board has openings

Individuals interested in filling any of three upcoming vacancies on the Lakeshore Technical College Board must apply by 4 p.m. Feb. 22.

The LTC Board is comprised of two employers, two employees, three additional members, a school district administrator and an elected official. Terms expire for three board posts each year.

The three vacancies are for an employer member, employee member, and an additional member. The standard terms will run from July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2019.

An employer member is defined as someone with the authority to determine or effectively recommend any of the following: hire, transfer, suspend, discipline, lay off, recall, adjust grievances, promote, discharge, assign, or reward.

An employee member is defined as a person who is employed or who is an officer or agent of a labor organization and receives earning as payment for personal services and is employed in the district.

All residents of a technical college district are eligible to serve as an additional member for that college.

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must reside within the LTC district, which includes Manitowoc County (less the portion of the school districts of Chilton, Brillion and Denmark); Sheboygan County (less the portion of the school district of New Holstein); the Kiel Area School District in Calumet County; and the Cedar Grove-Belgium and Random Lake school districts in Ozaukee County.

Equal consideration is given to the general population distribution within the LTC district, as well as the distribution of women and minorities.

To ensure board composition diversity as required by Wisconsin Technical College System policy, this year’s spring appointments must meet the following criteria: two must be from the northern portion of the district in Manitowoc and Calumet counties, and one from the southern portion in Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties, pending availability.

Each applicant must submit a notarized affidavit/application, résumé and at least two letters of recommendation by 4 p.m. Feb. 22 to Heidi Soodsma, board appointment liaison, Lakeshore Technical College, 1290 North Ave., Cleveland 53015. To receive an application, contact Heidi Soodsma at (920) 693-1631 or heidi.soodsma@gotoltc.edu.

Applications will be reviewed to verify candidates’ eligibility and then distributed to the LTC Board Appointment Committee for review. The committee is made up of county board chairs from Calumet, Manitowoc, Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties.

According to state statutes, applicants must be present at the LTC Board appointment public hearing, during which they will be interviewed. The public hearing will take place March 29 at 5 p.m. in the Lakeshore Conference Room of the Lakeshore Building at LTC’s Cleveland campus.
