Grazing seminar at Camp Y-Koda

Glacierland RC&D & the Basin Graziers Network are hosting a Winter Grazing Workshop, on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 10:00 am. to 3:00 pm. at Camp Y-Koda, Sheboygan Falls, WI. Anyone involved in agriculture will benefit from listening to nationally renowned soils genius, Ray “the Soils Guy” Archuleta!

10 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Registration

10:30 a.m.-Noon Interactive Grazier Roundtable. A panel of local, experienced graziers will share their experiences and knowledge of: favorite forage species; management styles for various species; pasture renovation schedules; grazing heights; stocking densities; farm transition plans and other critical aspects of their successful grazing operations specific to this region.

Noon-1p.m. Lunch & Networking

1 p.m.-3 p.m. Managing Pastures & Integrating Cover Crops into Grazing Systems to Maximize Soil Health: Ray Archuleta & Justin Morris, USDA NRCS. Ray& Justin will explain the role of proper grazing management for healthy soils. They will teach how to build healthy, resilient soil in a farming system that mimics nature and puts more money in your pocket. They will discuss the use of diverse pasture & cover crops to: build life & fertility in the soil; produce abundant yields while implementing the best sustainable methods of establishing and maintaining maximum biology; build aggregates that make up the best soils and see it grow your best pastures year after year for your livestock.
