Momentum Show Choir takes second

Momentum, the new Plymouth High School show choir, tied for first runner-up in the preparatory division at the recent Chocolate City Showcase. “This is incredible for just their second competition ever,” said choir director Amanda Gaura. “I’m so proud of these kids, and so happy their hard work has paid off!” The choir took seventh out of 15 teams, beating five Open Class veteran teams, and was just half a point away from making the finals at the event, held Jan. 16 in Burlington. Most competitive show choirs enter three to five competitions a year, so taking seventh overall is impressive for a choir in only its second competition, Gaura said. Choir members start preparing to compete in August at a weeklong boot camp, then regularly practice twice a week. The 20-minute show is themed around the apocalypse, with pieces including “Dies Irae” by Rage the Machine, “It’s the End of the World as We Know It” by REM, “ Disturbia” by Rihanna, “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons, “Skyfall” by Adele” and “How Far We’ve Come” by Matchbox 20.
