Blue Bombers slip past Elkhart in BEC Tourney

KOHLER – The Kohler Blue Bombers built 32-20 halftime lead and then held off the Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah Resorters to win, 51- 46, in the Big East Conference Boys Basketball Tournament here Thursday night.

The game decided 13th place in the inaugural tourney. Kohler improved to 6-15 overall and the Resorters, who led by two late in the game, fell to 2-19.

The Resorters had a chance to tie the game at 49-49 but Owen Kalbacken’s three-point shot with 3.6 seconds left rimmed out. Kohler’s Sean Farrell was then fouled and he sank two free throws which made it 51-46 and iced the win.

Farrell, a sophomore guard/ forward, led the Blue Bombers in scoring with 16 points.

Junior guard Caleb Broaddus and sophomore Noah Ruh paced a balanced Resorter offense with 11 points each. Kalbacken, a se- nior forward, had a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 15 rebounds.

“The kids played hard,” said Resorter head coach Ray Mlada.
