Rhude ignites Panthers to ECC rout

PLYMOUTH – Junior guard Lydia Rhude scored a career-high 20 points off the bench to spark the Plymouth Panthers to a 75-53 drubbing of Berlin in girls basketball action Thursday night at the PHS gym.

The East Central Conference game was the regular-season finale for both teams. The Panthers finished third in the ECC with a 10-4 record and are 15-7 heading into the playoffs. The Indians posted a 4-10 league mark and are 8-14 overall.

PHS is a No. 5 seed in its Division 2 regional and will play at No. 4-seeded Slinger in the semi-finals Friday at 7 p.m. Both teams received first-round byes. The finals will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the higher seed.

Rhude shot well overall from the field at 57 percent (8-for-14) and was 2-for-2 from three-point range.

“Lydia really gives us a spark off the bench. She had a very good scoring game,” said Panther head coach Brad Shutter.

The Panthers, who led 43-28 at halftime, featured a balanced attack with six players having eight or more

__ points. Gwen Streblow and Emily Majerus tallied 17 and 11 points, respectively.

PHS was an excellent 7-for-16 from three-point range.

“We did a good job of attacking their zone. It was a real good team effort,” said Shutter.

The Panthers’ strong outside shooting opened up the inside which PHS took advantage.

Rhude was Plymouth’s top rebounder with nine. Majerus led PHS in assists with seven and Streblow had six. Streblow had a team-high three steals.

JUNIOR VARSITY GAME

The Panthers cruised to a 64-15 win in JV play to finish 12-2 in the ECC and 18-4 overall. PHS built a 48-13 halftime lead.

Sommer Stoney led PHS on offense with 10 points, followed by Ashley Batzner and Emma Jewel with eight each. Stoney had a teamhigh six rebounds.

Jewel and Gabi Mella paced PHS in assists with two each. Mella had a team-best six steals.

“Our defense played well as it has done all year,” said PHS coach Mike Gumm.

“This was another great group of girls to coach.”
