Four Resorters named to All-South division first team

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters have four players who were named to the All-Great 8 Conference South Division eight-man football first team for the 2015 season.

The honorees are junior running back Jared Shaw and freshman lineman Regan Dippel on offense, and senior lineman Owen Kalbacken and senior linebacker Trent Rebedew on defense.

Shaw was also a first-team running back as a sophomore. He was named to the All-Region Team at running back for all of eight-man football.

Kalbacken is also on the second team offense as a receiver. The Resorters’ other all-conference players are junior defensive lineman Izaiah Annis and sophomore linebacker Troy Rebedew.

Shaw led the division in rushing with 823 yards for an impressive 8.1 average per carry. He led the division in scoring with 94 points. He ran for 13 touchdowns and had one TD reception.

Kalbacken, a tight end, caught seven passes for 132 yards and six TDs in league play. He had an 18.9-yard average per catch. He ranked third in the division in TD receptions.

Head coach Mark Martinez of Abundant Life Christian (Madison) was selected the South Division Coach of the Year. Abundant Life won the division with a 6-0 record.

Obi Iwuagwu of Abundant Life was named the division’s Player of the Year. Iwuagwu, a first-team running back, rushed for 589 yards and 10 TDs. He had an outstanding 15.1 average per carry.

The Resorters finished third in the division with a 4-2 record.
