ComedySportz matches

The Jolly Pranksters are competing for the 10th year in the ComedySportz High School League, the only school in the county to do so. Plymouth vs. Plymouth matches will be at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2 in the PHS Amphitheatre, 125 Highland Ave.

These matches, refereed by professional ComedySportz comedians, will pit groups of four PHS students against each other.

The team then returns to the ComedySportz Arena, 420 S. 1st St., Milwaukee, for matches April 9 and 16 and the annual tournament April 23 and 30. PHS won the championship in 2014 and fell one point short in 2015.

General admission at either venue is $3 for one match, $5 for two or $8 for three. Concessions featuring Subway subs and homebaked goods will be available at the Plymouth games.

ComedySportz matches consist of a variety of improvisational games played by the team members, or “act-letes,” who spontaneously create comedic scenes and skits. The players compete to earn points that are awarded based on the audience response, and the group that is dubbed by the referee as being the funniest earns the most points.

Audience participation is highly encouraged and an integral part of each show, so the team hopes that Plymouth fans make the trip to Milwaukee. Accordingly, fans can ride the team bus to Milwaukee matches this year. The bus is expected to leave at 9:30 a.m. and return by 3 p.m.; transportation is free, but fans should contact advisor Janet DeJean Newton to make a reservation.

Free public show

The Jolly Pranksters also will present a free show for the public featuring all of the team players at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7 in the PHS Amphitheatre. Another public show is set for Thursday, May 19.
