Bradley

To the Editor

We are in spring campaign season again and the news media are doing their routine character assassination to Justice Rebecca Bradley. It seems that anytime a woman or black person, who is perceived not to be a progressive/liberal, attempts to gain an important government position, the vicious attacks rise to a level beyond the normal. Indeed, the news distorters go out of their way to ignore the qualifications and background of candidates they oppose and use their position not to provide information but for personal attacks. Unfortunately, there are many who cannot or will not distinguish between the ruthless assault going on against Justice Bradley and the truth.

It’s time for the media and their ilk get over the partisan witch hunt and report on the candidate and what she has done professionally. In the case of Justice Bradley there is a track record. After receiving a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Wisconsin, she spent 16 years as an attorney in private practice. In 2012 Rebecca Bradley was recognized as one of the leading lawyers in Litigation, Business Law, and Internet Law. Recently she served on Wisconsin Court of Appeals and the Milwaukee County Circuit Court. She is eminently qualified for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, a position that she now holds.

Justice Bradley also served as President of the Milwaukee Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society, an organization founded on the principle that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. This is the kind of judge we want. What we don’t want is a Judge that would ignore the law in favor of her personal ideology and whims. There are too many of those already.
