Bolich paces PHS girls at Manitowoc Invite

MANITOWOC – Senior Sophie Bolich cruised to victory in the 3,200-meter run to lead the Plymouth Panthers at Friday’s Manitowoc Invitational indoor girls track meet.

Bolich posted a time of 12 minutes, 7.78 seconds which was about 27 seconds faster than the runner-up.

The Panthers finished seventh in the 13-team meet with 27.5 points. Appleton North took first with 105, followed by Fond du Lac at 91.

Plymouth’s next-highest finisher was Gwen Nytes with a fourth in the pole vault at 7-6.

The Panthers’ other placewinners included: Lauren Rabe, fifth in the 400 dash in 1:07.44; Emily Portschy, seventh, 55 high hurdles, 10.86; 640 relay, seventh, 1:39.31; 1,600 relay, eighth, 4:54.65; Kyra Kronberg, seventh, shot put, 33-5; and Jamie Schultz, tied for seventh in the high jump with 4-6.

The 640 relay members were Helen Baus, Lindsey Karczewski, Nytes and Katie Grimm. The 1,600 relay included Bolich, Hanna Eigenberger, Allie Gruttner and Lauren Rabe.

“Our girls competed well. We had lots of 10-12th-place finishes that don’t score any points but indicates our athletes are being competitive,” said Panther head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“We are still working on getting in shape and improving our field-event technique, so we have plenty of room and time for improvements.

“Sophie ran a real nice 3,200 race, mostly by herself which makes it a bit harder. Lauren ran another solid 400 race with a good, strong finish. Gwen in the pole vault and Kyra in the shot put led us in the field events.”
