Young musicians compete at UW-S

Four aspiring musicians will be competing in a live competition at The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan at noon on Thursday, April 7 in the UW-Sheboygan Commons.

According to Dr. Christy Talbott, Music Professor at UW-Sheboygan and manager of the annual competition, “We received more entries than ever before and each act showed great promise.” Five local music educators reviewed the recordings from the applicants and narrowed the field to four.

The finalists include:

Emma Bagnall, a student from North High School, Sheboygan

Samantha DeVries, a music education and performance major at UW Oshkosh

Jamece Jones, a student from the High School of the Arts, Milwaukee

Hannah Stolper, a senior at Sheboygan Area Lutheran High School

Each of these four acts will perform their audition song plus one other piece for the April 7 competition.

The competition is open to the public and everyone in attendance receives one vote. The top three placing performers will then advance to a final competition to be held on Thursday, May 5 at 7pm. Admission is free for this final TAKE NOTE-ice Concert that takes place in the Fine Arts Theatre at UW-Sheboygan.

Participation in the competition was open to any soloist or studentled musical group formed outside local high school or college music ensembles. All members of a group must be enrolled in a Wisconsin high school or college.

UW-Sheboygan is located at One University Drive in Sheboygan. For directions or more information, visit
