Carvers show at Ice Center Saturday Apr.16

The 26th annual Kettle Karvers Klub “Artistry in Wood” woodcarving show and competition is set to take place Saturday, April 16.

The event will be held at Lakers Ice Center, located at 1202 South Wildwood Ave. in Sheboygan.

The public is welcome to attend the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This year’s show will include over 40 carvers, as well as wood and tool vendors. Demonstrations will be held at 11 a. m. and 1 p.m.

A youth carving session will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Children ages 12 and up with a parent or guardian present can join a club member for a hands-on carving project.

This year’s featured carver is Gene Mathes of Sheboygan. Mathes, who has been carving for 16 years, carves in many different styles. Mathes has won numerous ribbons at the show over the years. He enjoys working on club projects to benefit area groups, like the Sheboygan Cancer Survivors Group, and Rocky Knoll.

Tony Bartol will provide the morning demonstration on basic tool forging. Richard Young will present the afternoon demonstration on tool sharpening.

Returning again this year is chainsaw carver Dave Bartels, who will carve and sell items outside the arena.

The Youth Hockey Association will provide concessions during the event. Admission is $2. Children age 12 and under may enter at no charge.

The Kettle Karvers Klub meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Generations in Plymouth. Anyone interested in becoming a club member and learning to carve is welcome to attend initially as a guest. Annual membership dues are $10.
