The 2016 Sheboygan Falls High School boys tennis team is hoping a roster made up of 15 juniors, sophomores and freshman will grow together during the course of the upcoming season.

Falls finished fifth place in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference with a 5-4 record (8-5 overall) in 2015.

The Falcons’ No. 3 doubles team of Ben LeBlanc and Ben Krueger took third place at the sectional meet.

Falls head coach Leigh Cherveny enters his 31st season with a 283-111 overall. Along with assistant Scott Widder (17th season), Cherveny is focused on continuing the program’s success.

“We have a relatively young squad this season,” said Cherveny. “We lost our No.1 and No.2 singles players, Jake Zehr and Zack Hand, from last season. They will be missed.”

The Falcons return sophomores Peyton Luecke, Brayden Much, Jordan Mielke, juniors, Bailey Hetzel, Ben Krueger, Aaron Mullikin, Mason Liebe and Tyson Reschke.

Hetzel and Reschke have been named team captains for the 2016 squad.

Krueger, Luecke, Hetzel and Mullikin were 2015 All-EWC honorees.

Newcomers are juniors Mitch Christensen, Aaron Vue, Chenchang Xiong, Jason Bonner, Robert Hayes, sophomore Hayden Karpinski and freshman Ethan Reschke.

“Our depth chart is wide open at this point,” Cherveny commented. “We expect positive contributions from our returning veterans Krueger, Mullikin, Reschke, Hetzel, Mielke and Liebe. The rest of the team is progressing nicely, and I look forward to their contributions toward another positive tennis season.”
