Helmer, Fenske lead Panthers to rout

BERLIN – Senior Erica Helmer threw a shutout and senior Jennifer Fenske had three hits to spark the Plymouth Panthers to a 9-0 rout over Berlin here Monday afternoon.

The Panthers raised their East Central Conference softball record to 2-3 (2-4 overall).

Helmer walked only one, struck out eight and surrendered six hits. PHS collected a whopping 14 walks, seven of which forced in runs.

Berlin pitchers Haley Polakowski (starter) and Olivia Resop combined to allow 10 hits and 14 walks to go with three strikeouts.

“We were very patient at the plate as we had 14 walks. There were opportunities to score runs with the bases loaded a few times, however, we didn’t capitalize. We need to be able to get those runners in on hits,” said Panther head coach Dawn Krebsbach.

The Panthers rolled to a 15-3 win in the JV contest.

Sylvia Peters fanned 13 batters en route to the win. She walked only one and hit two batters.

Elsa Bald and Ellie Potrykus banged out four hits and had two RBIs each to key the PHS bats.
