Falls fifth graders place at state



The Sheboygan Falls fifth-grade boys basketball team posted a seventh-place showing at the Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament, co-hosted by Appleton East, Appleton North and Kimberly, Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3. The tournament, organized by The Great Northwest Basketball League, brought together 72 of the top community-based fifth-grade boys basketball teams from throughout Wisconsin. State champions were crowned in four divisions, including Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4/5, based on the enrollment of the high school into which each team feeds. The Sheboygan Falls fifth-grade boys team placed seventh in the Division 3 tournament with a 3-3 record. In pool play, Sheboygan Falls defeated Edgerton 32-30 and Lodi 37- 35, while losing to eventual Division 3 state champion Columbus 42-24. The Falls squad fell to Freedom 29-16 in the first- through eighth-place quarterfinal game and lost to Wrightstown 37-24 in the fifth- through eighth-place semifinal contest, before defeating Omro 35-33 in the seventh-place contest. Columbus topped Freedom 46-32 in the Division 3 state championship game.
