Bagnall leads Tigers to second in BEC meet

SHEBOYGAN – Junior Matthew Bagnall tied for second place to lead the Howards Grove Tigers to a runner-up finish in Tuesday’s Big East Conference boys golf meet at the Town and Country Golf Club.

Bagnall shot a 3-over-par 38 on the nine-hole Riverwoods Course. The medalist was Grant Boyson of St. Mary Catholic (Neenah) with a 36. Sharing second with Bagnall were Charlie Twohig of Kohler and Brayden Van Ess of Sheboygan Christian.

Christian edged HGHS by one stroke, 162-163, to win the 13- team meet. Sheboygan Lutheran earned third with 167. The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters tied for eighth with Mishicot at 185.

The Tigers’ other low players were Jack Baldwin and Mason Valenstein with 41s and Layne Gustafson, 43.

Sophomore Max Ward paced the Resorters with 44. Also scoring for EL-G were Anthony Klahn with a 46, Sam Lutzke, 47 and Alex Viglietti, 48.

“This meet showed the depth of our conference. It was cold, windy and rainy but there were some great scores today,” said Tiger head coach Joe Hansen.

“I was very happy with Mason Valenstein and Jack Baldwin who provided some great scores for our team. Matthew Bagnall had a very nice day,” said Hansen.

“We were not at full strength and missing our number 2 and 3 golfers but I thought we held our own. Slowly but surely we are showing improvement and we will continue to get better,” said Resorter head coach Bart Larson.
