Comm Ed classes offered

Plymouth School District Community Education and Recreation is offering a new class on Understanding Real Food, plus SCUBA, Kayaking and Dog Obedience this summer.

The following recreation classes are being offered:

SCUBA: Those ages 10 through adult can try SCUBA in the safety of the Plymouth High School pool. All equipment, supervision and pool time included. Class will meet with Divers’ Delight instructors from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 13; fee is $35 ($28 for Generations members and district residents ages 62 and up) until April 29, then $45.

Kayaking: Those ages 6 through adult can experience this great recreational activity on the local Mullet River. Kayaks (weight limit 250), paddles and life jackets provided. Class will meet with instructor Andy Arentson and recreation & fitness coordinator Clayton Moore from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays from May 2 to 16 at Riverview Middle School; fee is $30 (seniors $26).

Register by May 6 and save $10 on the following general interest classes, which will be held at Plymouth High School, 125 Highland Ave.:

Understanding Real Food: Join a discussion on the quality of our food, interpreting food labels, understanding health, and how anti-inflammatory eating can help you. Class will meet with holistic nutrition consultant Aaryn Reiter and Dr. Dan Francis from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 16; fee is $10 until May 6, then $20.

Dog Obedience: Learn basic commands and how to teach your dog to sit, stay, come when called, who takes who for a walk, and other safety tips. Dogs should be at least 3 months old. Handlers ages 11-15 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring slip collar and 6-foot leash. Class will meet with instructor Pat Chickowski from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays from May 18 to June 29; fee is $38 (seniors $30) until May 6, then $48. An identical class will be offered from Aug. 3 to Sept. 14.
