Rebuilding of cross-county rail described

The Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, 518 Water St., Sheboygan Falls announces the release of a new book, “Rebuilding a Railroad in the 21st Century” by John Winter.

This new volume documents the rebuilding of the 11-mile rail line from Plymouth to Sheboygan after lying dormant for nearly 30 years. More than just a fix-it-up job, this project was the replacement of the entire line from the ground up with new track built to modern standards to handle heavy loads. It also required one trestle to be completely replaced and others reinforced.

The book includes dozens of color images documenting construction with before and after photos taken at dozens of locations, many showing extraordinary change. Also included is the history of this line from the pre-civil war era to current times.

Great for railfans and novices, the book is available at SCHRC, online at schrc.org or by phone, 920.467.4667. Please call or stop in.
