Resorters earn first Big East victory

MISHICOT – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters won their first Big East Conference North Division boys golf minimeet of the season Tuesday afternoon at the Fox Hills Resort.

Elkhart shot a season-best 168 for nine holes on the Fox Hills Blue Course. The Resorters were led by junior Brennen Cain who tied for second place with a 40 along with Mishicot’s Austin Schnell.

The Howards Grove Tigers finished third in the six-team event with 176 and were paced by sophomore Mason Valenstein with a 41. Valenstein and Elkhart sophomore Max Ward shared fourth in the medalist race.

Grant Boyson of St. Mary Catholic was the medalist with a 1-over-par 36. The SMC Zephyrs captured third with 173.

The Resorters’ other low players were Dante Miller with a 43, and Sam Lutzke and Anthony Klahn who shared the fourth score at 44 each.

The Tigers’ other low golfers were Matthew Bagnall, Jack Baldwin and Jake Fritz with 45s.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our guys. They were really competitive and it is the first time this group shot in the 160s. With no seniors, that is very promising,” said Resorter head coach Bart Larson.

“Brennen and Max led the way with a 40 and 41. That is exactly what we need out of our Nos. 1 and 2 golfers [respectively] and I expect to see more of that throughout the year.

“Dante, Anthony, and Sam also all played very well. We are starting to improve and get better each meet,” said Larson.
