Green’s bat ignites Rockets past Tigers

HOWARDS GROVE – Morgan Green was 5-for-5 with four RBIs to power Cedar Grove-Belgium past the Howards Grove Tigers, 9-6, in a Big East Conference softball game Tuesday afternoon at HGHS.

The Rockets pounded out 16 hits. Brittany Simmelink, Lauren Holzberger and Megan Gonwa contributed two hits each.

The Tigers dropped to 2-5 in the BEC (3-8 overall).

CG-B scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to go up 8-4. The key hits were RBI singles by Simmelink and Green. The other two runs scored on wild pitches.

The Tigers were led at the plate by Sierra Wildman and Zaylie Kleinman with two hits each. Taylor Bubolz ripped a triple and scored two runs.

The winning pitcher was Adrianna

Thiele. She allowed four earned runs on nine hits with five walks and one strikeout in going the distance.

Paige Splittgerber was the losing pitcher – giving up six earned runs and four walks to go with three strikeouts in going the route.

“Overall, I can see the improvement in our team but I am disappointed we cannot put a full game together,” said Tiger head coach Tom Heier.

“We manage to make a fielding mistake and allow other teams to have big innings instead of finishing off games. We are continuing in the right direction but it’s just taking time.”
