Resorters bounce back to earn split

The Rams won game one, 8-2, behind Cathryn Hiller’s strong pitching. The Resorters bounced back with a 10-3 rout in game two. The teams are fighting for the Big East Conference lead with Mishiocot.

Random Lake leads the BEC race with a 12-1 record, followed by Mishicot at 11-1 and Elkhart, 12-3. The league season includes 20 games for each team.

Holly Zorn pitched very well for the Resorters in the second game to earn the win, going the route. She allowed no earned runs on five hits with three walks and strikeouts each.

She mixed speeds and hit the corners,” said Resorter head coach Brian Feldmann.

“We timed Hiller out in the second game and our hitting came around, and we played good defense.

It was an overall team effort.”

Elkhart struggled against Hiller’s good fastball in game one. In the opener, Hiller threw a five-hitter and earned the win. She fanned 10 batters and walked one.

In the second game, Hiller gave up five earned runs on nine hits with no walks and one strikeout in going the distance.

Sonia Schubert led Elkhart in hits in the nightcap with three and Claire Feldmann had two. Feldmann had a team-high three RBIs and Rachael Flora had two.

Elkhart was helped by six RL errors in game two.

GAME ONE

The Rams exploded for six runs in the top of the second inning to key their win. Emma Schimberg’s tworun triple and Jenna Bares’ two-run single sparked the frame.

Bares, Schimberg and Hannah Borchardt led RL in hits with two each. Bares and Schimberg had a team-best two RBIs apiece.

Feldmann paced Elkhart in hits with two.
