Ervin J. Golembiewski, 85, of Town of Plymouth, WI passed away Monday Evening (May 23, 2016) at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Sheboygan Falls surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 5, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI, son of the late John and Helen (Gasiorowski) Golembiewski.

Ervin served in the United States Army from 1953-1955.

He attended St. Hyacinth Grade School in Milwaukee and graduated from Boy’s Trade and Technical High School (now named Milwaukee Trade and Technical High) in 1949. Erv attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

He married Patricia Piotrowski on June 9, 1956. She preceded him in death on February 28, 1986.

On November 25, 1989 he married Linda Phelps at St. Marcus Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

Erv worked for the City of Milwaukee for 32 years as Director of the Department of City Development and then Deputy City Treasurer retiring in 1996. While working at the City, Erv was an active member of the Milwaukee Society.

Erv was an original board member of the Polish Festivals Committee that organized Polish Fest, leading to raising the funds necessary to purchase the land that the Polish Center in Milwaukee is built. This helped rest the heritage on a solid base that has become an institution of Polish culture.

Upon retirement, Erv and Linda relocated to Plymouth. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth and also was very active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Plymouth serving as President for 8 years. During his oversight, the St. Vincent Community Store has expanded 6 times to meet community needs.

Erv was also passionate about education. He served on the Board of the Plymouth Education Foundation since 2005. He was the initial donor to and actively involved in the capital campaign for the Food Science and Agriculture Center at the High School.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years: Linda of Plymouth; one Son: Mark (Denise) Christopher of Appleton; one daughter: Gail (Dan) Ryan of Jacksonville, FL; 8 grandchildren: Emily, Megan and Clare Christopher of Appleton, Peter Ryan of Dallas, TX, Michael Ryan of WestPoint, NY, Patricia, Andrew and Sam Ryan of Jacksonville, FL; one brother: Leonard (Ruth) Golembiewski of Greendale, WI; one brother in-law Edward Krawiecki of Milwaukee, WI; three brothers-in-law: William (Nancy) Phelps of Fox Lake, WI, Andrew (Lynn) Phelps of Stoughton and Thomas (Susan) Phelps of Plymouth; one sister-in-law: Elizabeth (Michael) Bahn of Florida.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday morning, May 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Plymouth. Father Dennis Van Beek will officiate. Cremation will follow the services and Inurnment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee.

Friends may call at the church on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. and visitation will continue on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of services.

The Plymouth Cheese Center Post # 5612 will conduct military rites at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Ervin’s name to St. Vincent De Paul Society or the Plymouth Education Foundation.
