Elkhart’s Schubert shines in regional meet

HILBERT – Junior Sonia Schubert of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah qualified for four girls sectional track events at the Division 3 regional meet here Monday.

Schubert qualified in the long jump, 100-meter high hurdles, triple jump and in the 400 relay. She won the long and triple jumps with school-record distances of 18-2½ and 36-8½, respectfully, and took second in the hurdles.

The 400 relay, which placed second, also included Lauren Boos, Mia Rentmeester and Jessica Mehre. The top-four finishers in each regional event advance to the sectional at Princeton Thursday, May 26, starting at 3:30 p.m.

The Elkhart Resorters’ girls team qualified four events and the Resorters boys, two. Advancing for the boys are Regan Dippel, who took second in the discus, and Hunter Radloff who was fourth in the 1,600 run.

“Overall, I was very pleased with the results. Of the athletes that did not qualify, some still scored points and almost all of them improved on their times and/ or distances,” said Resorter head coach Joe Greuel.

“I was especially pleased with the 4-by-100 girls relay. They performed better than anticipated. I was also pleased with Hunter Radloff in the 1,600 run and with Regan Dippel in the discus.”

Manitowoc Lutheran won the girls meet with 135 points. Elkhart finished sixth with 51.5.

The boys champion was Algoma with 145.5 points. Elkhart placed ninth with 26.
