Tigers’ bats quiet in regional loss

MANITOWOC – The Howards Grove Tigers were held to only two hits as they fell to host Manitowoc Lutheran, 8-1, in a Division 3 firstround regional softball game Tuesday afternoon.

The 11th-seeded Tigers ended their season with an 8-18 record. The sixth-seeded Lancers improved to 15-9.

Megan Schetter was the winning pitcher with a complete-game win. Schetter allowed one earned run and three walks while striking out one.

“Megan Schetter did a nice job changing speeds and kept the Tiger hitters off balance. We hit the ball but rarely hit it solid,” said Tiger head coach Tom Heier.

Paige Splittgerber drove in the Tigers’ run with a double in the top of the fourth inning. Sierra Wildman’s double was HG’s other hit.

Riley Brice was 3-for-3 to lead the Lancer’s attack which had 11 hits. Sarah Yagodinski and Maddie Schleis contributed two each. Yagodinski scored a team-high three runs.

Splittgerber took the loss and went the distance. She allowed seven earned runs and eight walks to go with one strikeout.
