Mariachi group to open free Sheboygan Music Series

The Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music Series opens Thursday, June 16, with an impressive lineup of performers and activities beginning at 6 p.m. on the John Michael Kohler Arts Center Festival Green at the corner of Seventh Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Headlining the show is the Grammy-nominated, all-female Mariachi Flor de Toloache from New York City. Group members originally hail from around the globe. The result of this cultural coalescence is an edgy, versatile and fresh take on traditional Mexican music with a mixture of traditional and modern mariachi music.

Their critically acclaimed selftitled debut album received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Ranchera Album of 2015. The band’s live performances have been praised by Rolling Stone, Bill- board Magazine, The New Yorker, GQ Magazine and The New York Times. They have also been featured on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert” and have appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The group has recently been performing as an opener for The Arcs on a West Coast tour, including an appearance at the Coachella Festival.

The evening starts with a launch party featuring Tim Dolfin of On Cue Mobile DJ Service spinning pop tunes with Kidd Nems.Sheboygan North High School Drumline will add to the entertainment. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs as seating is not provided. Food trucks and a cash bar will be on site. No alcoholic carry-ins are allowed.
