Feldmann slammed a leadoff homer over the left-field fence in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Resorters a dramatic 6-5 win over Reedsville in a Division 4 regional softball final here Friday afternoon.

The homer was Feldmann’s first of the season.

“I was due. I have not hit a ball in a while. I was just trying to get on base. The ball was right down the middle,” said an elated Feldmann who plays second base.

“It means a lot [to hit the gamewinning homer]. It’s really exciting. It hasn’t sunk in yet. I couldn’t have done it with everyone.

“Our bench was a big help. We were making some mistakes out there and getting our heads down, and we came in here and they picked us up right away,” said Feldmann.

“She’s been struggling and we’ve been working with her swing,” said Resorter head coach Brian Feldmann about his niece, Emma. “What a nice, smooth swing [on the home run]. I’m very proud of her.”

Coach Feldmann was also proud of the way his team battled back from a 5-1 deficit against the Big East Conference rival Panthers. The Resorters scored four runs in the fifth to knot the game, 5-5.

“I’m proud of the girls. They never quit. We hung in there and we just battled,” said the coach.

The No. 2-seeded Resorters improved to 20-4 and the No. 3-seeded Panthers finished 17-9.

The fourth run scored on Raechel Grunewald’s groundout.

The Resorters’ first run came in the third on Claire Feldmann’s double.

Some defensive miscues by Elkhart helped Reedsville build its 5-1 lead. Resorter starting pitcher Holly Zorn gave up five runs but only two were earned as Elkhart made four errors.

“The girls settled down [on defense] after the first couple innings. There were a lot of nerves, said coach Feldmann.

“We put the ball in play and our speed took over. Our aggressive baserunning paid off.
