Huskies sweep twinbill from Resorters

NEW HOLSTEIN – The New Holstein Huskies swept a Big East Conference baseball doubleheader from the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters, 6-0 and 4-1, here June 1.

The Resorters slipped to 1-1 in the BEC (1-1 overall). The Huskies improved to 2-0 in the league (3-2 overall).

Sophomore Carson Heus twirled a three-hit shutout in the opener. Heus walked only two and struck out four.

The only hits for Elkhart were a single each by Owen Kalbacken, Jordan Bahr and Max Kossman.

NH had seven batters with one hit each. Heus had a team-high two RBIs. The Huskies stole eight bases, led by Nick Andrew and Brady Halbach with two each.

The losing pitcher was Kossman who allowed three earned runs on seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts in going the route.


Elkhart outhit NH 6-3 in the nightcap but the Huskies were aided by seven free passes.

Josh Burg was the winning hurler. Burg, who started, gave up no runs on three hits with zero walks and two strikeouts in five innings.

Stephan Clemens pitched well for Elkhart but took the loss. Clemens threw a complete game and allowed four earned runs on only three hits with seven walks and three whiffs.

The Resorters’ Tyler Schultz and Brennen Cain were the only batters in the game with multiple hits – each having two singles. Schultz drove in his team’s run.

Contributing one RBI each for NH were Justin Weber, Burg, Nolan Beirne and Heus.
