Medved’s grand slam sparks Flames to rout

The Branch catcher is Justin Otto. – Review photo by Greg Ceilley PLYMOUTH – Dusty Medved belted a grand slam and had five RBIs to power the Plymouth Flames to an 11-4 drubbing of the Branch Blaze in baseball action Friday night at Carl Loebe Field.

Medved’s home run came in the bottom of the first inning and gave the Flames a 4-2 lead. The grand slam was Medved’s first as a Flame.

The nonleague win raised the Flames’ record to 8-2. Nick Wilson was the winning pitcher – allowing four earned runs on six hits with one walk and zero strikeouts in seven innings.

Plymouth banged out 12 hits, led by Tyler Willeford with three. Luke Held, Zac Cain and Matt Olig collected two hits each. Olig was the other Flame with multiple RBIs as he contributed two.

Brandon Gloeser and Brent Robinson paced the Blaze in hits with two each. Robinson, who clobbered a solo homer in the sixth, had a team-high two RBIs.
