The Rams hiked their Big East Conference record to 8-6 (11-10 overall) while the Resorters fell to 3-11 (3-11 overall).

Random Lake needed a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning to subdue the Resorters in the opener. Ben Drenski got the pitching victory in relief, stepping in the last 2-2/3 innings for starter Kip Bichler.

The Rams took an early lead as Travis Huiras walked, stole second and third, and scored on Erik Holeman’s double to left.

The Resorters responded with three runs in their half of the first inning. Stephan Clemens singled past the shortstop and Owen Kalbacken knocked a hit to left. Brennan Cain walked to load the bases.

Two scored on Max Kossman’s single to right, and a double-steal produced the third run. Andrew Sit- ko drove a single to right, where Travis Huiras fired the ball to the plate, where Colin Barrington tagged out Kossman.

The Rams loaded the bases in the second and fourth innings but finally scored a run with two outs in the fifth. Barrington dropped a single into short left center, and he scored on Trenton LaFever’s double to deep left center.

Elkhart responded with two runs in the fifth for a 5-2 lead. Clemens drove a single up the middle and Kalbacken doubled to center. One run scored on a wild pitch. Cody Behnke and Jordan Bahr walked to load the bases. Kossman hit into a fielder’s choice, allowing Kalbacken to score.

Random Lake came through with a rally with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Holeman and Barrington singled up the middle. LaFever sent an RBI single to right. Evan DeBroux pounded a single up the middle, scoring Barrington and Weiss (who eluded the tag at the plate).

Grayson Vandenbush came in to run for DeBroux, who had taken second on the throw to the plate. Travis Jacob walked. The go-ahead run scored as Cordell Huiras slammed the first pitch for a single up the middle.

All that Elkhart could muster in the bottom of the seventh was an infield single by Behnke.

Max Kossman led EL-G in RBIs with three. Tyler Schultz, Clemens and Kalbacken had a team-high two hits each.

Random Lake’s offense really blossomed in the second game, which ended with the 10-run rule in the sixth inning.

The Resorters gained a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Cain’s slow roller to the shortstop was an infield single, and he stole second. He went to third on Kossman’s single to right and scored on a passed ball.

The Rams erupted for five runs in the third inning. DeBroux walked and advanced on a balk. Jacob’s short infield fly dropped in for a hit.

With two outs, Travis Huiras hammered a triple to deep left center. Drenski followed with an RBI single to left. Holeman slammed the first pitch for a line-drive homer down the left field line which gave the Rams a 5-1 lead.

The Rams’ next outburst came in the top of the sixth inning. DeBroux singled to center, and Vandenbush came in to run, stealing second. Scott Paulus belted a towering home run to right field.

Jacob had an infield hit. He stole second and went to third on an overthrow. Cordell Huiras was hit by a pitch. A run scored on Travis Huiras’ ground out. Drenski followed with an infield hit to right.

Drenski stole second and third, scoring on Holeman’s single.

Elkhart had only four hits, led by Brennen Cain’s two.

LaFever was the starting pitcher and winning pitcher as he yielded only four hits and no walks with five strikeouts in five innings.
