‘Then/Now’ group exhibition opens at UW-Sheboygan gallery

The University of Wisconsin- Sheboygan invites the community to view the latest art exhibition, Then/Now: A Survey of Indiana Green Artists (2010-2014), on display from July 1 through Aug. 31 in the Fine Arts Gallery on campus.

A special reception is planned for Thursday, Aug. 11 from 5:30- 8 p.m. Admission is free. UW Sheboygan is located at One University Drive in Sheboygan. Free parking is available.

Indiana Green is a regional group exhibition, with works curated by Frank Juarez and Melissa Dorn Richards.

To date, it has featured 58 artists living and working in Wisconsin and Illinois.

The UW-Sheboygan display will highlight 12 artists who have participated in Indiana Green since its inaugural exhibition in 2010. Then reflects 2010 – 2014 and Now reflects what they are doing today, which is the exhibition.

The amazing display is able to capture how each artist’s works have developed over the course of 2 to 6 years and features only their new works - including video, installation, photography, printmaking,

Exhibiting artists include: Pamela Anderson (Milwaukee), Andrea Avery (Sheboygan), Tony Conrad (Appleton), Kay Jelinek (Sheboygan), Tonia Klein (Milwaukee), John Kowalczyk (Milwaukee), Leah Schreiber Johnson (Milwaukee), Melissa Dorn Richards (Milwaukee), Rafael Francisco Salas (Ripon), Christopher Willey (Milwaukee), Dean Valadez (Milwaukee), and William Zuback (West Allis).

Co-curator, Frank Juarez, is an artist, gallery owner, art educator, advocate and community leader living and teaching in Sheboygan, who is committed to exposing, educating and engaging others on the importance of experiencing and supporting the visual arts.

Melissa Dorn Richards is a Milwaukee based artist who has been exhibiting nationally for 20 years. She is represented by Frank Juarez Gallery and is also active in the local arts community through her work co-chairing the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network (MARN) advisory board and as a board director for Artworks for Milwaukee.

Her newest adventure is as comanaging director of Material Studios + Gallery, a space for artists to create, produce, and develop their entrepreneurial practice.

A catalog that includes the artists’ earlier works, new works, as well as photographs from the studio visits will be available.

UW-Sheboygan Fine Arts Gallery hours are Monday - Thursday 8 a.m.-9 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
