County railroad book available at Research Center

The Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, 518 Water St., Sheboygan Falls, announces the release of a new book, “Rebuilding a Railroad in the 21s Century” by John Winter.

This new volume documents the rebuilding of the 11-mile rail line from Plymouth to Sheboygan, after lying dormant for nearly 30 years.

More than just a fix-it-up job, this project was the replacement of the entire line from the ground up with new track built to modern standards to handle heavy loads.

It also required one trestle to be completely replaced and others reinforced.

The book includes dozens of color images documenting construction with before and after photos. The book is available at SCHRC, online at or by phone at 920-467- 4667.
