Klemme earns academic bb honors

Jake Klemme of Plymouth, a senior on the Cornerstone University (Grand Rapids, Mich.) baseball team this past season, has earned Co- SIDA Academic All-District Baseball Team honors for the District 1 College Division. Sports information directors from District 1 voted on the academic honors. District 1 includes 21 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Klemme, an exercise science major, achieved a 3.92 grade-point average. Klemme, a 2012 Plymouth High School graduate, was a right fielder for the Golden Eagles this year. He batted .278 with a team-high eight home runs and 33 RBIs. He had four stolen bases, a .489 slugging average and a .325 one-base percentage. Klemme is currently playing for the Plymouth Flames.

Hot bats key PHS JV’s win

The Plymouth Panthers pounded out 13 hits en route to an 11-8 victory over visiting Random Lake in junior varsity baseball action June 16. Matt Pohl led the PHS attack with three hits. Keegan McMullen, Michael Troka, Donovan Suchow and Joey Osieczanek added two each. Osieczanek paced the Panthers in RBIs with two. Pohl scored a team-high three runs. Ben Picard picked up the win in relief. Picard allowed one run (unearned) on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in three innings. On June 18, the Panthers fell at Cedar Grove-Belgium, 5-4, in eight innings. The Rockets rallied from a 4-1 deficit. Pohl led PHS in hits with three and Joe Steinhardt had two. Tristen Townsend led in RBIs with two.
